Carib Gems discography

Carib Gems was Adrian Sherwood's first step into the music business proper. The label was set up jointly in the mid 1970s (Sherwood being a junior director) to distribute Jamaican music in the UK as it came off the press in its home country, and as such almost none of the products feature Sherwood involvement directly. Subsequently he left Carib Gems, briefly created the Creation Rebel record label, then formed Hitrun with Prince Far I and started showcasing in the UK his own production and mixing talents on many of its releases.

Virtually all of the information here is reproduced with thanks and permission from Andre's reggae discographies at tapirs.home.xs4all.nl/ in slightly re-arranged form.

Carib Gems' catalogue numbering system seems to have undergone a few changes of policy during the life of the label leading to some pairs of releases being given virtually same catalogue number in some cases. As a general rule I've ordered items within their format by the last two digits of the catalogue number and 'duplicates' listed one after the other.
