As they were both living in London and mingled in the same post-punk era music circles at the end of the 1970s, its not really surprising that the musical paths of Jah Wobble and Adrian Sherwood should have crossed.
Wobble (apparently John Wardle in real life) first came to prominence as the bass player for John Lydon's post Sex Pistols vehicle, Public Image Limited alongside Keith Levene but quit in 1980. Following a personally difficult spell at the start of the 1980s his road to recovery and search for new musical direction saw him periodically invited through On-U Sound's doors.
For example he appeared on Dub Syndicate's classic 'Tunes From The Missing Channel' 1985 album on the track 'Over Board' - for which he also took the writing credit. Other appearances and / or writing credits mounted - up including African Head Charge's 'Off The Beaten Track' (ON-U LP40) (1986), the Barmy Army's 'English Disease' (ON-U LP48) (1989) and Gary Clail's 'End Of The Century Party' (ON-U LP49) (1989) albums. Sherwood was later to return the favour by lending his remixing talents to Jah Wobble's Invaders Of The Heart 'Visions Of You' single (1992) and to another Wobble project, Pulse 8, on the track 'Radio Morocco' (1989).
Sherwood and Wobble still go about their celebrated musical businesses but essentially independently these days. Wobble continues to cast his influence widely having worked alongside the Orb, Bill Laswell, Ernest Ranglin, Sinéad O'Connor, Primal Scream, Nicky Skopelitis, Natacha Atlas, Ramshackle, Apollo 440 and so the list goes on and on. His own 30 Hertz label is now the home of his prolific and boundary-pushing music.
